COLUMBUS, Ind. – The annual Memorial Day service in downtown Columbus is set for Monday, May 25, starting at 11 a.m., at the Bartholomew County Memorial for Veterans.

It features the reading of each name of a local veteran who has passed since May 2025, followed by the tolling of a special bell. There will also be the placement of wreaths by representatives of the Gold Star Mothers, the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The Southern Indiana Pipes and Drums, with featured vocalist Matthew Pillar, will provide the music. Bartholomew County’s Honor Guard will fire three rifle volleys, and Michael Schmelz of the Columbus City Band will play “Taps” to conclude the service.

Limited seating will be provided, so bring your own chair.

A spokesperson thanked the Bartholomew County Funeral Directors and Sawyer Glick, vocalist Matthew Pillar, Associate Senior Pastor B.J. Marshall, and Midnight Express Entertainment for their involvement.

In the event of rain, the service will be moved indoors to Columbus City Hall.
